pILGRIM PRAYERS

In all our travelling
May your footsteps guide us
In our journeying to work and returning
May your footsteps guide us
Within our homes and families
May your footsteps guide us
In our leisure time together
May your footsteps guide us
In difficult situations and conflict
May your footsteps guide us
As we stumble on the way
May your footsteps guide us
In the travelling of our faith
May your footsteps guide us
As we place our trust in you
May your footsteps guide us
In all our travelling. Lord,
may it be your footsteps
in which we place our feet
For each step that we might take,
Be our guide, O Lord of life.
For each load that we might bear,
Be our strength, O Lord of life.
For each mountain we might face,
Be our power, O Lord of life.
For each river that might impede,
Be our safety, O Lord of life.
For each place where we might rest,
Be our peace, O Lord of life.
For each sunrise and sunset,
Be our joy, O Lord of life.

Eternal God,
give us the courage to set off on pilgrimage.
May we travel unhindered by worldly possessions
simply trusting in you for all that we need.
Sometimes our hearts will be heavy as we plod along
and our feet will ache and feel dirty.
Other times we will rejoice as the sun shines
on the path stretching before us.
May we ponder the truth,
that the pilgrim’s journey is never finished till they reach home. Amen
You call us, Lord,
to leave familiar things and to leave our “comfort zone”.
May we open our eyes to new experiences,
may we open our ears to hear you speaking to us
and may we open our hearts to your love.
Grant that this time spent on pilgrimage
may help us to see ourselves as we really are
and may we strive to become the people you would have us be. Amen

Lord, you know our beginning and our end.
Help us to realise we are only pilgrims on this earth
and save us from being too attached to worldly possessions.
May we experience the freedom to wander,
the freedom to hope and the freedom to love as we journey. Amen
God is the beginning and the end of life's pilgrimage. Let us call on him with confidence, saying:
Lord, be the companion of our journey.
Father all-holy, of old you made yourself the guide and the way for your people as they wandered in the desert; be our protection as we make this journey, so that we may return home again in safety. For this we pray:
Lord, be the companion of our journey.
You have given us your only Son to be our way to you; make us follow him faithfully and unswervingly. For this we pray:
Lord, be the companion of our journey.
You gave us Mary as the image and model for following Christ; grant that through her example we may live a new life. For this we pray:
Lord, be the companion of our journey.
You guide your pilgrim Church on earth through the Holy Spirit; may we seek you in all things and walk always in the way of your commandments. For this we pray:
Lord, be the companion of our journey.
You lead us along right and peaceful paths; grant that we may one day see you face to face in heaven. For this we pray:
Lord, be the companion of our journey.

St. Gildas 5th C Pilgrims’ Prayer
In health may I and all of my companions
Safely arrive with no harm or injury –
May my boat be safe in the waves of the ocean,
My horses safe on the highways of the earth,
Our money safe as we carry it with us
To pay due heed to our poor necessities.
May our enemies fail to do harm to us,
However evil the counsels which inspire them,
In the eternal name of Christ our Master,
May my roads all lie plain before me,
Whether I climb the rugged heights of mountains,
Or descend the hollow depths of valleys,
Or trudge the lengthy roads on open country,
Or struggle through the thickets of dense forest:
May I walk always in straight ways and shining
To longed-for places. Amen.

Creator God, you are the source of all life and motivation.
May we journey in faith and love, rejoicing and eager to serve you.
Grant us a glimpse of your glory as we seek to follow you –
the Way, the Truth and Life. Amen.

Travelling Lord, You called your disciples to follow in your way: you are the Way, the Truth and the Life, and so we come, seeking to follow in your footsteps. Creator of the earth, as we journey, help us to walk lightly, treasuring the world you have given us and cherishing each other. And grant, we pray, that our daily walk may be part of your plan, to care for creation seeking justice and the coming of your Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

In this busy world
that we inhabit
grant us space
to rest awhile -
by the still waters
of your peace,
to hear the whisper
of your voice
and feel the warmth
of your breeze
within our souls.
Grant us space
to rest awhile. Amen.
